On August 30, 2023, the U.S. and Italy reached an agreement to allow dependents the ability to telework for U.S. employers. This new agreement will give any dependent in Italy on a mission visa the ability to telework without changes to their visa status or having to obtain an Italian work visa.
This opportunity only applies to telework with U.S. employers.
Transitioning overseas is one of the most stressful life events. Uprooting from your neighborhood, school and job and nation to settle in an unknown environment can take a physical and emotional toll, especially if a big part of that stress is financial. Often times, military families who are called to serve overseas find themselves limited to one income due to host nation legal restrictions. This agreement is intended to help lessen the stress of an overseas move and give our military and federal civilian families options.
Allowing dependents to telework for U.S. employers, while in Italy, is a pivotal quality of life improvement that offers families continuity while transitioning overseas with their loved one for military or government work.
