U.S. Army Southern Europe Veterinary Detachment (SEVD) Rota Branch is located in Building 1863, providing veterinary service support to U.S. Forces in Spain and Portugal to include Sixth Fleet operations in the Mediterranean.
The mission priority places primary emphasis on food inspection and safety, sanitation compliance of commercial and military food facilities and care of government-owned animals. Secondary emphasis is focused on zoonotic disease prevention and control and care of privately owned animals.
Food Inspection
The Food Inspection section is responsible for the Installation Food Inspection Program, Poultry Quality Assurance Program, Origin Sanitary Inspection Program, Commercial Sanitary Inspection Program, and Prime Vendor Program.
Animal Medicine
The Animal Medicine section is responsible for comprehensive medical care for military working dogs and mascots, zoonotic disease prevention and control, and sanitation compliance inspections on animal kennel facilities.
SEVD Rota Branch also provides, through our Veterinary Treatment Facility, limited care for privately owned animals. This includes vaccinations, minor sick calls and small animal preventive medicine.
