Sailors and their family members seeking a college degree will find both undergraduate and graduate programs available. Four regionally accredited institutions offer degrees and certificates under the terms of Tri-Services Academic Contract: Central Texas College (CTC), Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU), University of Maryland University College (UMUC), and University of Phoenix (UOP).
CTC offers Associate Applied Science degrees Criminal Justice, Early Childhood Development, and Automotive Technology. CTC also provides on-line courses to prepare for Microsoft Certifications.
UMUC offers Associate Degrees in General Curriculum, Italian Studies, Management Studies, Business and Management and Computer Studies. UMUC Bachelors degrees are in Psychology, Business and Management, and Computer & Information Science. UMUC also has certification programs in Italian Studies, Spanish Studies, & Accounting Studies.
ERAU offers an Associate Degree and Bachelor degree in Professional Aeronautics and Technical Management. They also have certificate programs in Security and Intelligence, Supply Chain Management, Occupational Safety, Health, Aviation Safety, & Aviation Management Technology.
University of Phoenix offers Masters of Business Administration and Education.
College courses are offered primarily in the evening and weekend classes are offered as well. For those who cannot attend traditional classroom classes, several independent study options are available including distance education programs through on-base colleges, as well as other stateside colleges and universities. Students can also work toward non-traditional external degrees with the help of Navy College Office academic advisors. Sailors can get their SMART transcripts and get help with other Navy College programs. On-base undergraduate schools are all members of the SOCNAV or Service Members Opportunity Colleges for navy personnel. The Navy College Office is a DANTES testing center providing GED exams, CLEP, DSST, ECE, SAT, ACT, GRE subject tests, PRAXIS exams, and various other tests to military and civilian personnel and their adult family members. All DANTES exams are in a paper based format. Many national certification examinations are also available.
