Installation Information

Camp Lemonnier provides, operates and sustains superior service in support of combat readiness and security of ships, aircraft, detachments and personnel for regional and combatant command requirements; and enables operations in the Horn of Africa while fostering positive U.S.-African Nation relations. Camp Lemonnier is a U.S. Navy led installation operated by Commander, Navy Region Europe, Africa, Central via U.S. Naval Forces Africa and Commander, Navy Installations Command.

The Base supports approximately 4,000 U.S., joint and allied forces military and civilian personnel and U.S. Department of Defense contractors. Additionally, the base provides employment for approximately 1,000 local and third country nation workers.

Chief of Navy Reserve Vice Adm. Nancy Lacore and Reserve Force Master Chief Tracy L. Hunt visited Camp Lemonnier (CLDJ). Lacore, a former commanding officer of CLDJ, returned to the installation for the first time since being sworn in as the 16th Chief of Navy Reserve. The visit provided an opportunity to view the installation’s advancements, share her Strategic Advantage vision and connect with Reserve Force Sailors. “Getting a chance to speak with her and ask questions was really encouraging,” said Logistics Specialist 2nd Class Maya Castillo-Rodriguez. “It feels good knowing she really is looking out for us and cares about what we have to say.”
Sailor Leads CLDJ Residents to Self-Improvement with Quality of Life Program

Operations Specialist 2nd Class Markenous Matthews, assistant lead petty officer (ALPO) of the port operations department on Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti (CLDJ), helps to create a safe space for base personnel to improve themselves with the Quality of Life (QOL) program. Matthews, a Dallas, Texas native with 12 years of service, built the chaplain-led, peer-support program after recognizing a need from his time leading a similar peer group for alcoholics.

Master-at-Arms 2nd Class Madison Waters, of Murrieta, California, joined the U.S. Navy after graduating from Murrieta Valley High School. She deployed to Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti, as a military working dog (MWD) handler where she was awarded Blue Jacket of the Quarter and meritoriously promoted to the rank of petty officer 2nd class. During her time at CLDJ, Waters earned the Navy Security Forces insignia and was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
