LCDR Mondre Barnes is a native of Virginia Beach, Virginia and graduated from Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets/NROTC in 2009 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology.
Upon receiving his commission, LCDR Barnes completed his first Division Officer tour aboard the USS ARLEIGH BURKE (DDG-51) as the STRIKE Officer. He next served onboard the USS FITZGERALD (DDG-62) as the Damage Control Assistant. Following his Division Officer tours, he reported to COMUSNAVCENT/5th FLEET as the Battle Watch Officer for Combined Maritime Forces (CMF). He next completed is second ashore tour at CNEURAFSWA Det BAHRAIN as both the Antiterrorism Officer and Security Force Officer for Combined Task Force Shore Battle Space.
LCDR Barnes earned his Master’s Degree in Homeland Security/International Security Studies from American Military University, while simultaneously completing his Joint Phased Military Education from the Naval War College.
LCDR Barnes served as both the Operations Officer and Combat Systems Officer onboard USS MASON (DDG-87), successfully completing multiple unit level operations with ABRAHAM LINCOLN Strike Groups in 5th and 6th FLEET’s during their 2019 deployment. After successful completion of his Department Head tours, LCDR Barnes reported to COMNAVSURFLANT serving as the Future Operations Officer in which he ensured all ships were manned, trained and equipped to support fleet tasking and operations.
In April 2023, LCDR Barnes became the Executive Officer of Naval Support Facility Redzikowo in Poland.
Lieutenant Commander Barnes’s personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (with two Gold Stars), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (with two Gold Stars), and multiple unit and service awards.
