A native of Georgetown, Illinois, Capt. Ewing received his commission through the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps and graduated from the University of Illinois in 2000 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science.
At sea, CAPT Ewing served as 1st Lieutenant aboard USS Estocin (FFG-15), as Main Propulsion Assistant aboard USS Vincennes (CG-49), as Chief Engineer aboard USS Elrod (FFG-55), as Training Officer aboard USS Kearsarge (LHD-3), as Deputy Current Operations with Commander, Expeditionary Strike Group FIVE, as Flag Secretary, Deputy N7 and Lead Exercise Planner with Commander, Expeditionary Strike Group TWO, as Damage Control Assistant aboard USS Kearsarge (LHD-3), as Deputy N4/Training and Readiness Officer with Commander, Carrier Strike Group FIVE / Commander, Task Force 70, and as Chief Staff Officer with Amphibious Squadron ELEVEN. At U.S. Seventh Fleet, CAPT Ewing served as Current Operations Director, Future Plans Director, and as the N5 (Assistant Chief of Staff for Plans and Exercises).
Ashore, CAPT Ewing served as the Installation Commanding Officer for Commander, Fleet Activities Chinhae (CFAC – the only U.S. Navy base in mainland Asia) and as Division Officer Instructor at Surface Warfare Officer Command, and as the Deputy Director of the U.S. Naval War College’s Maritime Operations Center Assist and Assess Team. CAPT Ewing is a Master and Afloat Training Specialist, as well as a graduate of Maritime Staff Officer’s Course, Maritime Operations Planner Course and earned a Master’s Degree in National Security Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College.
In FY14, CAPT Ewing was awarded the Naval Surface Forces Atlantic, Surface Warfare Officer of the Year award. Other personal decorations include the Meritorious Service, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation and Achievement Medals. However, he is most proud of his unit and campaign awards because of the teamwork they represent.
