Capt. Ronel Reyes is a native of San Diego, CA. He joined the Navy in 1994 and attended the Naval Academy Preparatory School in Newport, RI. He is a 1999 graduate of the United States Naval Academy and earned his Master of Science in Systems Engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School.
At sea, his initial tour was aboard USS Nassau (LHA 4) where he served as Combat Information Center Officer and Assistant Damage Control Assistant. During his tour he deployed to the Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. He served as Operations Officer on USS Rueben James (FFG 57) deploying to the Western Pacific in support of JTF-515 and Joint Special Operations Task Force – Philippines (JSOTF-P) operations and various multination exercises to include Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2008. He reported to Commander, Destroyer Squadron 31 (CDS 31) as the Combat Systems Officer where he did a Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) deployment. Aboard USS Peleliu (LHA 5) he served as Damage Control Assistant and deployed to the Western Pacific in support of Forward Deployed Naval Force Japan operations.
Ashore, he served as executive officer and commanding officer of the U.S. Navy Ceremonial Guard in Washington, D.C. Following his command tour he served as the Assignment, Leave, and Travel Business Design Owner and Distribution Management Division (PERS-45) Deputy Director at Navy Personnel Command. He served as the Project Officer and Scenario Development Lead at the NATO Allied Command Transformation Joint Warfare Centre in Stavanger, Norway. Most recently, he served as Chief of Staff at Navy Recruiting Command.
His decorations include the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), and various campaign and unit awards. Additionally, he was the recipient of the RADM Herbert E. Schondland Award for Excellence in Damage Control.
