CMDCM (IW/EXW/SCW/SW/AW/NAO/PJ) Stephen Harano

Master Chief Harano graduated from RTC Great Lakes in December 2003, completing Nuclear Field Machinist’s Mate ‘A’ School and Nuclear Power School in Charleston, SC immediately following. In January of 2005 he reported aboard USS George Washington (CVN-73), serving as a mechanic, and as captain of the command Exhibition Rifle Drill Team. After reaching the end of his first enlistment in 2007, Master Chief Harano received an honorable discharge from active duty, transferred to the Navy Reserve, and cross-rated to the Intelligence Specialist (IS) rating. 
Upon graduating from Basic Intelligence Training in January 2009 at the Navy/Marine Corps Intelligence Training Center (Dam Neck, VA), Master Chief Harano was assigned to the Joint Transformation Command–Intelligence as an analyst in the Joint Personnel Recovery Support Department. During that tour he was hand-selected to mobilize in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM, embedded with the 30th Naval Construction Regiment, Kandahar, Afghanistan. Upon his return, he reported to Naval Expeditionary Intelligence Command, where he completed Intelligence ‘C’ School and earned the Naval Special Warfare Intelligence Specialist NEC (3912). 

Concurrent with his geographic move to Colorado in August 2011, Master Chief Harano transferred to Headquarters, Defense Intelligence Agency (Det. 0819), Tactical Measurement and Signature Intelligence 
(MASINT) unit. While there, Master Chief Harano volunteered for an arduous deployment with a Special Operations Joint Task Force, completing 18 consecutive months in Afghanistan attached to the Tier 1 Special Intelligence Detachment (Airborne) and the 52nd Expeditionary Intelligence Squadron. After returning from this mobilization, Master Chief Harano was reassigned to US Northern Command - Intelligence, where he was advanced to Chief Petty Officer and subsequently assigned the concurrent roles of unit LCPO and Senior Enlisted Leader of the Joint Reserve Unit. In September 2017, he was selected to serve the NAVIFORES Region Southwest staff being double-hatted as both the Reserve Enlisted Affiliations Coordinator and the Embedded Personnel Coordinator. Master Chief Harano was selected via the CNIFR SEL APPLY Board as Command Senior Enlisted Leader for NAVIFORES Region Southwest, now known as NIFR Readiness Center San Diego until 01 April 2024 as a result of his selection as the next Command Master Chief of Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti. 
Master Chief Harano’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal (9 strike/flight awards), Joint Service Commendation Medal (2 awards), Navy Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Navy Achievement Medal (2 awards), and various unit and campaign awards. He is qualified Information Warfare, Expeditionary Warfare, SEABEE Combat Warfare, Aviation Warfare, Surface Warfare, Navy and Marine Corps Parachutist, and is a designated Naval Aviation Observer. He holds a bachelor’s degree in intelligence analysis, a Master’s of Science in criminal justice with a concentration in homeland security, and a Master’s of Science in financial services with a concentration in legacy planning. Additionally, he completed a postgraduate professional certificate in blockchain technology from the University of California at Berkeley, and a graduate certificate in Business Data Analytics from Harvard. Master Chief Harano has completed the Senior Leader Legal Course, is a graduate of Senior Enlisted Academy, Class 224 
(Brown Group), and the COB/CMC Course. In his civilian life, Master Chief Harano is the founder and CEO of The Trade School, teaching students how to navigate and trade in the financial markets, and works for the Defense Intelligence Agency at NORAD and USNORTHCOM in Colorado Springs, CO.
