CDR Avant’s sea tours include Gunnery Officer and Third Deck Division Officer aboard the USS KEARSARGE (LHD 3), Damage Control Assistant aboard the USS GONZALEZ (DDG 66), Operations Officer aboard the USS ARLEIGH BURKE (DDG 51), Combat Systems / Weapons / Anti-Terrorism Officer with COMDESRON TWO EIGHT, Assistant Surface Operations Officer/SKEDS with CARRIER STRIKE GROUP TWO, and Executive Officer of US AEGIS ASHORE MISSLE DEFENSE SYSTEM Poland. His shore tours included Instructor / Officer in Charge at SWOS Damage Control Assistant Senior School (DCASE), Future Operations Staff Officer at U.S. Second Fleet, and N3 / N5 Scheduling Officer at Tactical Training Group Atlantic (TTGL). CDR Avant’s personal decorations and awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (six awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), and various unit and campaign awards.
