Commander Keith S. Neilsen

A native of Roseville, California, CDR Nielsen enlisted in the United States Navy in January 1995.  Upon completing Basic Training in Great Lakes, Illinois, and the Navy’s Nuclear Power Training Program, he reported onboard USS ALBANY (SSN 753) where he served from 1996-2001.  Following that tour, CDR Nielsen served as an instructor at Navy Nuclear Field “A” School in Charleston, South Carolina.  In January 2004, CDR Nielsen earned his commission through Officer Candidate School, Pensacola, Florida.

 

CDR Nielsen’s afloat tours include Division Officer tours onboard USS TRENTON (LPD 14) and USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70), Department Head tours onboard USS NICHOLAS (FFG 47) and the staff of Commander, Destroyer Squadron TWO EIGHT, and Pre-Commissioning Crew Officer in Charge and Executive Officer onboard USS MIGUEL KEITH (ESB 5) Military Crew (Blue).  Ashore, he has served simultaneous “dual hat” tours in the Future Plans and Policy directorate for Commander, U.S. SECOND Fleet and Joint Force Command Norfolk, and two tours on the staff of Commander, Operational Test and Evaluation Force.  In February of 2022, CDR Nielsen began serving as the Executive Officer (XO) to Naval Support Facility Redzikowo, Poland.

 

CDR Nielsen’s decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (5 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (5 awards) and various unit citations and campaign medals.
