NAPLES, Italy – U.S. Navy personnel from Naval Support Activity (NSA) Naples joined Italian local leaders and community members in Pompeii, Italy, on Sep. 11, 2025, for a wreath-laying ceremony to honor the lives lost during the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

The ceremony took place at the "September 11" monument in Piazza Bartolo Longo, a symbol that represents the enduring bond between the United States and its Italian hosts. Key attendees included Capt. John Randazzo, commanding officer of NSA Naples, Consul General in Naples Terrence Flynn, and Mayor of Pompeii Carmine Lo Sapio.

“Today, we pause to remember the lives taken from us on that clear September morning,” said Randazzo, following the wreath-laying ceremony. “To be here, side-by-side with our Italian allies and friends from the City of Pompei, reaffirms our shared commitment to never forget. We are grateful for their enduring solidarity.”

After the ceremony, attendees were invited to a Holy Mass in suffrage of the victims at the High Altar of the Basilica of Pompeii.
