Capt. Jeremy Ewing relieved Capt. Ronel Reyes as commanding officer of Naval Support Facility (NSF) Redzikowo, in Slupsk, Poland, Dec. 10, 2024. NSF Redzikowo supports the Aegis Ashore missile defense system, providing layered collective defense against missile threats.
“In my view, selection for Command at any level is the ultimate compliment to an officer,” said Rear Adm. Brad Collins, commander, Navy Region Europe, Africa, Central, who presided over the change of command. “It is a responsibility like no other.”
Commissioned Sept. 3, 2020, NSF Redzikowo is the first U.S. installation in Poland, and the Navy’s newest base. Reyes, the installation’s fourth commanding officer, assumed command in Dec. 2023. Under his leadership the installation joined its sister site in Romania as part of NATO and the European Phased Adaptive Approach.
“It has been my absolute honor to lead the men and women of NSF Redzikowo over this past year,” said Reyes. “I feel extremely humbled and privileged to have been associated with such a special command, let alone be given the opportunity to be the commanding officer.”
Collins formally welcomed Ewing to Poland, and conveyed his confidence that he and Redzikowo’s Sailors would accomplish the large undertaking before them.
“The responsibility for this base and the safety of its people will soon rest on your shoulders. While this job can be demanding, it is worth doing,” said Collins. “I have full confidence in your ability to lead this amazing team.”
NSF Redzikowo formally underwent a Transfer of Authority to NATO, making it the third and final installment of the European Phased Adaptive Approach. Captain Ewing will be the first CO to assume command of the installation under that designation.
“I look forward to serving alongside you, as we continue to build, on the many great accomplishments that this superb Navy team has worked so hard to achieve,” said Ewing. “Thank you for providing world-class customer service and support to our tenants, our partners, and our mission.”
The Aegis Ashore site in Poland, in conjunction NSF Deveselu, Romania and the U.S. Navy destroyers forward deployed in Naval Station, Rota, Spain, expands a defensive capability that protects NATO European territories, populations and forces against ballistic missiles launched from outside the Euro-Atlantic region.
Navy Region EURAFCENT oversees nine installations in seven countries, enabling U.S., allied and partner nation forces to be where they are needed, when they are needed in order to ensure security and stability in the European, African, and Central Command areas of responsibility.
