NAPLES, Italy – Naval Support Activity (NSA) Naples is now benefitting from new roadways opened yesterday near its Support Site base in Gricignano di Aversa. The roadways increase overall safety and traffic flow in the area by providing a new roundabout at the Support Site base entrance and a new two-lane bridge to supplement an existing one-lane bridge.

"First, everyone at NSA Naples wants to thank the mayor of Gricignano di Aversa, Vincenzo Santagata, our Italian hosts and our site-manager, Mirabella, for their efforts," said NSA Naples Commanding Officer Capt. John Randazzo. "This will be a great safety upgrade for our local community, and we see it as a great example of our enduring partnership." The project was coordinated through Mirabella, the firm that is the owner and maintainer of the Navy Support Site in Gricignano di Aversa. Beginning in July 2023 with a groundbreaking ceremony involving the City of Gricignano and base leadership, the road work was completed in a three-phase plan to create an alternative access road to Nola-Villa Literno.

“We have maintained a decades-long friendship with our American military partners,” said Vincenzo Santagata, mayor of Gricignano di Aversa. “We see them as a part of our community, we share holiday celebrations and ceremonies and we both benefit when we complete infrastructure projects like this. I know our city’s community will find the new roads and traffic pattern to be safer and more efficient than before.”

Recently, Mirabella completed several quality-of-life construction projects for residents living onboard Support Site. These included: new dog parks, recreational pickle ball courts, a renovated movie theater, upgraded HVAC systems, and a new artificial turf sports field for student athletics.

"It's always a great opportunity to highlight the work Mirabella does for our community on Support Site," said Capt. Randazzo. "These steady improvements are leading us towards our goal of becoming the flagship Naval base in Europe."

NSA Naples is an operational ashore base that enables U.S., Allied, and partner nation forces to be where they are needed, when they are needed to ensure security and stability in the European, African, and Central areas of operation.
