The Ohio-class guided missile submarine USS Florida (SSGN 728) arrived in the Bay of Naples for a regularly scheduled visit August 4, 2023. While in Naples, USS Florida conducted a brief logistics stop and hosted distinguished visitors for a tour, further strengthening the U.S. and Italian partnership. USS Florida last visited the Bay of Naples in March 2023. "We are honored to host distinguished visitors aboard USS Florida while she is in Napoli to conduct a logistics stop," said Rear Adm. Stephen Mack, director of Maritime Operations, U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa. "We value our long-standing relationship with Napoli as the host of U.S. Naval Forces Europe and Africa and U.S. Sixth Fleet, and this visit serves as a visible demonstration of the strength of the U.S.-Italy partnership.  This brief logistics stop helps to ensure that Florida and her crew are ready to continue operating in support of our NATO Allies and partners, as we all work to advance shared ideals of security and stability in the region." For over 80 years, U.S. Naval Forces Europe-U.S. Naval Forces Africa (NAVEUR-NAVAF) has forged strategic relationships with allies and partners, leveraging a foundation of shared values to preserve security and stability. Headquartered in Naples, Italy, NAVEUR-NAVAF operates U.S. naval forces in the U.S. European Command (USEUCOM) and U.S. Africa Command (USAFRICOM) areas of responsibility. U.S. Sixth Fleet is permanently assigned to NAVEUR-NAVAF and employs maritime forces through the full spectrum of joint and naval operations.
