The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Gonzalez (DDG 66) arrived in Souda Bay, Greece, for a port visit April 1, 2019.

The crew of Gonzalez plans to refuel, do maintenance and receive parts while in Souda Bay.

“Team 66 is excited for our short stay in Souda Bay,” said Cmdr. Christopher Schwarz, the commanding officer of Gonzalez. “While this visit is a working port, our folks will certainly have a chance to explore Crete and the local culture in the area.”

Following Souda Bay, Gonzalez will continue its deployment supporting maritime security efforts in the U.S. 5th and U.S. 6th Fleet areas of operations.

U.S. 6th Fleet, headquartered in Naples, Italy, conducts the full spectrum of joint and naval operations, often in concert with allied and interagency partners, to advance U.S. national interests and security and stability in Europe and Africa.
