Commander Jim Elmore is a native of Elk Grove, California and a 2002 graduate of the United States Naval Academy (USNA) with a Bachelor of Science in Physics. He holds a Master of Science in Physics from the Naval Postgraduate School.
A Surface Warfare Officer, his initial sea duty assignment was in USS OSCAR AUSTIN (DDG 79), where he served as Main Propulsion Officer, and USS BOXER (LHD 4) where he served as Gunnery Officer. During these tours he deployed to U.S. Fifth Fleet in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and U.S. Seventh Fleet in support of Exercise Talisman Saber and Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (Exercise CARAT). Upon completion of Surface Warfare Officer Department Head School, he served as the Engineering Officer in USS WAYNE E. MEYER (DDG 108), where he deployed to both U.S Fifth and Seventh Fleets, and Materiel Officer and Senior Watch Officer in COMDESRON TWO THREE, where he deployed to Fifth, Sixth, and Seventh Fleets. During these deployments he supported Operations Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom, and Inherent Resolve.
CDR Elmore served as the Damage Control Assistant (DCA) in USS TRUMAN (CVN 75) where he deployed to US Second and Sixth Fleet. In addition to deploying in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Inherent Resolve, he was part of the first split deployment in support of the Distributed Maritime Operations (DMO) concept and conducted flight operations north of the Arctic Circle for the first time since 1991.
Ashore, CDR Elmore served as a physics instructor and building First Lieutenant at USNA, Planning, Programming, Budget, and Execution Coordinator at OPNAV N2N6, Deputy Financial Analyst at OPNAV N804.26, and Deputy Shipbuilding & Conversion Navy (SCN), Manager at OPNAV N9I.
His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal and various other personal unit, and service awards.
