Captain Michael Beaty

Captain Beaty, a native of Hoover, AL, commissioned in 2000 from the U.S. Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science degree in Systems Engineering, and was designated a Surface Warfare officer in 2002. He is a graduate of the Navy Nuclear Power Program and was most recently the Executive Officer and Associate Professor of Naval Science at NROTC Unit, University of Kansas.

His past operational assignments include Damage Control Assistant aboard USS Wasp (LHD 1) deployed in support of Operation Odyssey Lightning off Libya; Operations Officer (N3) of AmphibiousSquadron Six and Bataan Amphibious Ready Group in support of Continuing Promise 2010 and Operation Unified Protector near Libya,and follow on operations in U.S. Fifth Fleet; Combat Systems Officer aboard USS Klakring (FFG 42) deployed to Standing NATO Maritime Group One and U.S. Sixth Fleet; Reactor Propulsion Division Officer aboard USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom, as well as Hurricane Katrina relief; Ordnance and Gunnery Officer aboard USS Ramage (DDG 61) where he deployed in support of Operation Noble Eagle post 9-11 and operations in U.S. Sixth Fleet.

Ashore, he completed tours as Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations (N3) to Commander, Naval Forces Korea and prior to that was the Commanding Officer of Navy Talent Acquisition Group New Orleans, a recruiting district with 92,000 square miles of territory. He served as Chief of Operations in U.S. Strategic Command’s Global Operations Center and attended the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College for Intermediate Level Education (ILE) and Joint Professional Military Education (JPME) Phase I. Additionally, he earned a Master of Science in Administration with a focus on Leadership from Central Michigan University. As a Lieutenant, he served as Assistant Professor of Naval Science at NROTC Unit, University of Kansas.

His military awards and decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (4 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and Humanitarian Service Medal (2), along with several campaign and unit awards.
