Commander Jimmy Harmon

Commander Jimmy A. Harmon is a San Diego native, originally born in the Philippines. He enlisted in the Navy in 1996 as a Gas Turbine Technical Electrician (GSE), where his first assignment was aboard the USS John Young (DD 973) completing three Western Pacific (WESTPAC) and two Southern Pacific (SOUTHPAC) deployments. While on shore duty, he worked at Systems Calibration (SISCAL) at Southwest Region Maintenance Center (SWRMC) (formerly SIMA) San Diego and was selected into the Seaman to Admiral (STA-21) officer commissioning program in 2004. He graduated in 2006 from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology with a minor in Political Science while earning his commission. CDR Harmon also holds a Master of Science degree in Systems Technology from the Naval Post-Graduate School in Monterey, CA.
Commander Harmon’s sea duty assignments include: USS Gridley (DDG 101) as the Strike Officer and is also a ship’s plankowner, USS Shiloh (CG 67) as the Main Propulsion Assistant (MPA), and later served as a Gas Turbine Assessor with Engineering Assessments Pacific (EAP). His department head tours were as Chief Engineering Officer (CHENG) in USS Sterett (DDG 104),  and at Commander, Destroyer Squadron Fifty (CDS 50), homeported in Bahrain. Following his department head tours, he worked at U.S. Naval Forces Europe and Africa / U.S. Sixth Fleet (CNE-CNA-C6F) as a Fires & Futures Operations planner, and selected for Executive Officer afloat.  His recent sea tour was aboard the USS George H. W. Bush (CVN 77) – winner of the Battle “E”, CNO Safety “S”, and VADM Buckeley awards where he served as the Auxiliaries Officer completing an eight and a half month deployment supporting the U.S. Sixth Fleet Area of Responsibility in support NATO coalition partners and allies.  
His current tour is as Executive Officer of Naval Support Activity (NSA) Bahrain.   
Commander Harmon’s awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (four awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (five awards), and various individual, campaign and unit awards.
