Commander Justin Hane

A native of Grove City, Ohio, CDR Justin Hane graduated from Ohio University with a Bachelor of Science in Aviation and was commissioned an Ensign in the United States Navy in April 2001 after Officer Candidate School. Following primary and intermediate flight training with VT-3, and advanced flight training with VT-31, CDR Hane received his wings of gold on July 26, 2002. His next assignment was to Patrol Squadron (VP) 30 at Jacksonville, Florida for initial training in the P-3C Orion. 

CDR Hane’s first fleet assignment was with the Skinny Dragons of VP-4 in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. During his time with the Skinny Dragons he supported campaigns in Iraq, Afghanistan and the Philippines as well as tsunami relief efforts over Sri Lanka. In February 2006 he reported to VT-6 to serve as a primary and intermediate flight instructor in the T-34C. While assigned to VT-6, CDR Hane was tasked as an individual augmentee with Central Command (CENTCOM) N3 Detainee Affairs. He received a Masters of Science in Information Technology Management in 2009. 

CDR Hane left active duty and affiliated with the Navy Reserves in 2009. He served as Officer in Charge at Advance Preflight Indoctrination teaching Flight Rules and Regulations and Crew Resource Management until 2012. CDR Hane then returned to VT-6 to serve as primary flight instructor in the T-6B. 

In May 2013, CDR Hane reported to Afghanistan for one year where he served as Unmanned Aerial Systems Detachment Commander, providing support to Special Operation Forces assigned to SOTF-SE. CDR Hane was assigned to CTF-69 in Naples, Italy as an Undersea Warfare Officer in 2019. Currently, he serves as Executive Officer for Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti, Africa, where he reported in August 2021. 

CDR Hane has accumulated over 3,000 flight hours in numerous military and civilian aircraft. His decorations include the Navy Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Joint Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2 awards) and various other personal and unit awards.
