      <description>JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM, Hawaii - On a recent Sunday morning, Senior Airman Sha'Angelo Farley, a Physical Science Technician with the U.S. Air Force’s 15th Maintenance Squadron at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam (JBPHH), headed to Haiku Valley on the windward side of Oahu where he joined other volunteers for cultural service work. He removed invasive species, planted native plants, and learned about Native Hawaiian culture and practices from the Koolau Foundation, which sponsors the bimonthly workday and learning program. “It was a great organization to work with,” he said, adding that he was grateful for the opportunity to give back to the community.&lt;br /&gt;

      <description>JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM, Hawaii - In the last three years, federal firefighters on Oahu responded to 1,567 requests for fire and emergency services support from the City and County of Honolulu, according to Jason Lopez, Commander, Navy Region Hawaii (CNRH) Federal Fire Department (FFD) Assistant Chief for Emergency Medical Services. That averages out to 522 calls for federal emergency assistance each year.&lt;br /&gt;

She saw the sacrifices her parents made after arriving in the United States from the Philippines. She learned the meaning of commitment, watching them work hard and endure hardships without complaint to ensure that she and her siblings had a stable upbringing. Cabuyadao also saw the resilience of her Pearl Harbor Elementary school classmates whose parents were deployed or away from home because of their military service requirements.&lt;br /&gt;

      <description>KĪLAUEA, KAUA‘I— The Department of the Navy signed an $800k Cooperative Agreement award with the Friends of Kauaʻi Wildlife Refuge to support a multi-year project focused on expanding habitat for native seabirds and water birds, support aviation safety at the Pacific Missile Range Facility (PMRF) by reducing Bird Aircraft Strike Hazard (BASH) and advancing long-term conservation on Kaua‘i.&lt;br /&gt;

Funding provided by the REPI grant will support the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service team in their work to manage crucial bird habitat within the new predator exclusion fence, and develop operational processes that will support this work into the future.  PMRF is the world&amp;#39;s largest instrumented multi-domain range, capable of supporting surface and sub-surface, air and space operations simultaneously.
