Captain Krauss is a third-generation military officer, the daughter of an Air Force Veteran and the granddaughter of a WWII Army Veteran. She earned her commission through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps at Boston University and graduated in 1995 with a degree in International Relations. She holds a master’s degree in National Security and Strategy Studies from the U.S. Naval War College.
Designated a Naval Aviator in 1997, her first assignment was flying the UH-3H Sea King and VH-3A with the Fleet Angels of Helicopter Combat Support Squadron TWO (HC-2) in Norfolk, Virginia. She deployed as a Helicopter Aircraft Commander with the “Desert Ducks” to Bahrain and with the “Ghost Riders” to Naples, Italy. Her next assignment was flying the UH-1N Huey with the Search and Rescue unit attached to Naval Air Station Brunswick.
Captain Krauss affiliated with the Navy Reserve in 2004. She served as the Operations Officer for NR Naval Support Activity Souda Bay and returned to the active duty for one year as the Administrative Department Head for Patrol Squadron NINE TWO (VP-92). She next flew C-130Ts with the NorEasters of Fleet Logistics Support Squadron SIX TWO (VR-62). Captain Krauss served as Commanding Officer, NR NSA ROTA 0169/0269. She was mobilized to Djibouti, Africa as Operations Officer, flying MQ-9 Reapers for the Trident Reach combat demonstration in support of Irregular Warfare. On her return, Captain Krauss was Commander, Naval Air Force Reserve boarded to serve as the Officer-In-Charge of the Broad Area Maritime Surveillance Pre-Establishment Unit and accepted the follow-on orders as Officer-In-Charge of NR Fixed Wing Unmanned Patrol Squadron ONE NINE Det Pax. She served as Deputy for NR NATO Allied Command Transformation Detachment Norfolk and on active duty as Commander SIXTH Fleet Air Planner for Ukraine crisis operations. Additionally she served as Commanding Officer, Navy Reserve Commander Naval Air Force, United States Pacific Fleet Support Unit.
Her military decorations include the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (5 awards), Navy Achievement Medal (4 awards), and various unit awards.
