Life at Camp

Today, Camp Lemonnier plays a pivotal role in supporting a number of Department of Defense missions, including military operations and humanitarian assistance activities. The camp and its tenant commands are supporting a wide range of missions being conducted by all of the U.S. military service branches. These missions are crucial to the U.S. and Coalition support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and U.S. Africa Command, among others.

In January 2007, it was announced Camp Lemonnier would be expanded from 88 acres to nearly 500 acres to meet the requirements of the future. As a result, additional improvements are underway in an effort to align the facilities structure with the overall Camp Lemonnier master plan. The camp has constructed more than 20 new facilities to include an aircraft apron, two taxiways, chapel, galley, a second recreation center and major utilities upgrades.

The Port of Djibouti has seen an increase in the number of Coalition ships visiting each month and Camp Lemonnier began protecting these ships with the addition of a Maritime Security Squadron.
